Will you survive Roland’s Game?
Will you survive Roland’s Game?
Beneath the iron rule of Roland the Tyrant, the people of Sipio live in squalor. Food is scarce, trust is scarcer. Thus in the twisting streets as well as in the grand palace, power is not given - it is seized.
But there is an opportunity for you to rise through the ranks and win the King’s favor, if only you dare to partake in The Mischief Society Ball. For in the candlelight halls all bow low, speak politely and twist their knives with impeccable etiquette. Every curtsy calculated, every toast a veiled threat.
You must use your abilities in creative ways and ensure you strike before you become a mark yourself. Are you a seller of secrets? A brutish blackmailer? A silver-tongued schemer? Or something far more insidious?
Enter The Mischief Society Ball and find out if you have what it takes to survive this night of intrigue.

What to expect from this kind of LARP?
While this event is more mechanics-based than our usual ones, we still work by the philosophies of Nordic LARP. Fundamentally, this is a sandbox, where you as a player may choose to engage in the main plot or focus your attention elsewhere - whatever makes sense for your character.
Between players, the main goal is Play to Lift: interact with other players in a way that makes sense for both your character concept and theirs. Look down upon the less fortunate at this event and cower before those more powerful than you. Do not be afraid to ask for specific interactions from other players! And equally don’t be afraid to ask how others prefer to be interacted with or what role their character plays in society.
We want to make clear that there is no winning this event. At best, your character escapes unscathed from a cruel game of the monarch, at worst, they lose everything important about their lives. Use this event to focus on the role-play and tell a satisfying, tragic, dramatic story with your character.
🩸 My Rise, your Fall
Welcome to the city of Sonder under the rule of Roland the monarch, Roland the tyrant. It is a twisted society that exists here, where everyone is struggling to survive… and the only way to get ahead is to push past the others. For you to rise, someone else must fall.
Maybe it’s besmirching a political rival to advance your career. Maybe it’s stealing food pills from hungry mouths because your own stomach is screaming. Maybe it’s ratting out your childhood friend, because a friend is just someone that hasn’t betrayed you yet – so it’s better if you betray them first, isn’t it?
🗡️ Opportunities for Intrigue
In the dimly lit halls of Roland’s court, there is always something afoot. Behind every closed door is a conversation that you aren’t a part of. Every hooded face clouds a pair of eyes that is watching you, waiting for you to lose focus, waiting for you to slip. Every waking moment you fear the knife that you know will be planted in your back one day.
So you need to take things into your own hands. Blackmail those that might blackmail you. Betray those that might betray you. And brandish the knife against those who would brandish theirs against you.
👑 Courtly Courtesy
You’re in Roland’s court, darling! Better act like it. We bow and we curtsey, we speak eloquently and properly, and we always act as pleasantly noble as if Roland’s eyes are watching our every move. Which of course they are. So mind your manners.
No matter how vile our intentions, our appearance must be gallant and immaculate. Our poisoned words are sweetly coated in honey. We twist the knife while flashing a smile. And those of us who are untrained in the noble arts of conversation had better be fast learners, or they will find their crude ways drawing the unwanted kind of attention.
🧛 A Dark Backdrop
Sanity is hard to come by in Sonder. Life here is already a struggle, and doubly so under Roland’s despotic thumb. Food is scarce, closets are full of skeletons, and “mental health” is a joke you would tell your friends, if you had any. It takes a certain kind of person to survive in this wicked dystopia – a person like you.
Are you a raving madman, a sinister schemer, a nose-breaking bully, a sadistic torturer, a boot-licking sycophant, an oblivious oaf, or just a plain and simple sociopath? Whatever your story may be, you’re still alive for now. Oh but the things you’ll have to do to keep it that way…
What does Collaboratively Organized mean?
This event is run a bit differently than most LARPs. Instead of having a central organization team for each LARP, everyone who comes helps participate in some way to make it happen.
Everyone who comes contributes something to the creation of the event. It is organized in teams on Discord and with check in meetings. What kind of help might you participate in giving?
Crafting props beforehand
Taking a shift on the community care team
Organising the afterparty
Organising food or cooking
Help with spreadsheets
Compiling visual inspo and playlists
You are expected to read the code of conduct, players handbook and character sheet. Beyond that you are encouraged to join a team and figure out how you can use your special skills to make the event happen! If you would rather contribute in money rather than time, then buying a treasury (supporter) ticket is one way you can contribute.
Would you enjoy any of these themes?
